New Initiatives
We are excited to share that QMAG has successfully secured funding under Queensland’s Collaborative Development Program (CDP)!
Through this initiative, QMAG will deliver the project:
“Extraction of high-purity magnesium chloride from magnesite tailings to facilitate secondary prospectivity of critical mineral magnesium in Queensland.”
Simply put, we will be focusing on using our mine waste, or tailings, to produce magnesium metal. This project reinforces our dedication to innovation and sustainability, unlocking new possibilities to turn mine waste into a valuable resource, and supports Queensland’s critical minerals strategy.
Importantly, this achievement helps position Central Queensland at the forefront of the critical minerals conversation - driving opportunities, attracting investment, and creating pathways for long-term economic growth and innovation right here in our own backyard.
We look forward to collaborating with industry partners and stakeholders as we deliver this exciting project and contribute to Queensland’s leadership in critical minerals.

Safety is not a component of our business, rather safety is an outcome of business.
From our Ore to Your Door - Episode 8 - In Pit Screening
QMAG currently mines 4 million tonnes of ore per year, from six to eight different pits.
We choose pits based on their magnesite content and contaminant concentrations. There are always at least two pits mined simultaneously to provide the Parkhurst plant with enough material at suitable quality to support our full suite of products.
