Falcon Update #2
Falcon update 13/11/24:
It’s been a very exciting weekend at QMAG’s Parkhurst Processing Facility with the hatching of all 3 peregrine falcon eggs after around 30 days of incubation. Two chicks were born around Friday and the runt most likely Sunday.
It’s very exciting considering the first clutch in September was unsuccessful (likely predated) and a testament to Electra that she was able to lay three new eggs. Electra is being a great Mum protecting her chicks and keeping them warm and fed.
Parenting is a team effort with Falco protecting the territory and helping QMAG out by managing the local population of rock doves (feral pigeons) and bringing plucked food gifts to Electra.
Every day that goes past the chicks get stronger and be less likely to be predated. If all goes well the chicks will fledge the week before Christmas -what a spectacular treat it would be for workers over the Christmas period to witness the fastest animal on the planet undergoing flight training.
