2024 Women in Mining and Resources Queensland Resources Awards

At QMAG we take great pride in our dedicated team & all their achievements!

We are ecstatic to announce that our Shift Production Coordinator, Leticia Shields, has been named as a finalist in the Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Resources Awards for 2024.

Leticia has been nominated as a finalist for the Exceptional Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician in Queensland Resources category.

There are 7 categories, with 18 finalists, these awards recognise exceptional achievements in the Queensland resources sector in any occupation. It notes leadership skills, resilience, methods of overcoming barriers and seeking out and accepting new responsibilities and challenges.

Leticia’s achievements have been building since she joined the mining industry 15 years ago. She started in the industry when there were harsh stereotypes of women & their role in the industry. Her achievements are not limited to just QMAG, in a short time, she was the first female to be able to work in the Gold Room at Jubilee Mine.

Leticia has been working with QMAG for 10 years, starting her QMAG career in the electrofusion plant as the first female to ever work in this high-risk area. And she didn’t stop there, she has since completed the training competencies to work in every area of our Parkhurst Facility.
She can operate all of our HME, loaders, excavators, etc. and is an expert on all of our fixed plant e.g. multiple hearth furnaces, vertical shaft kilns and the electrofusion line. Her career at QMAG has been, to put it simply TRAILBLAZING.

Her progression throughout her career has simply been a testament and true reward for her professionalism, energy and learned mining knowledge.

GOOD LUCK LETICIA – we will be there to support & cheer you on!
