QMAG : Queensland Magnesia

Beneficiation

Kunwarara mining site

Pre-concentration and beneficiation plants are operated at Kunwarara to separate magnesite from the waste products within the mined ore, and to produce a magnesite feedstock low in lime and silica.

The KG1 beneficiation plant incorporates multi-stream crushing, scrubbing, screening, heavy media separation and ore sorting stages to upgrade the magnesite product to a quality suitable for high grade magnesia.

Ore from KG2, and commencing in 2007 from the Oldman South section of the deposit, is upgraded through the KG2 preconcentration plant and then transported to KG1 for final processing.

Selective blending of product stockpiles ensures consistent feedstock grades and optimal mine yields are achieved from the variable Kunwarara orebodies.
